Woo Gallery & Shop

The gallery/shop sells original and reproduced artworks and products in which the represented illustrators have been involved. Besides the illustration-based wares, the owner selected products that came across her path and fascinated her. Exactly this mixture of these two seemingly different types of items on sale formed the starting point for our design.

For a long time, we have been fascinated with the beauty of construction sites. By inserting a drywall construction in front of a background with various shades of grey, we created a display area in an otherwise classical white-walled gallery.

In what looks like walls under construction frozen in time, we have integrated shelving and cabinets to display products. Repurposed drawing cabinets in the rear wall invite visitors to browse illustrations not currently displayed.

The grey colour palette of the drywall zones is invigorated by splashes of colour - reminiscent of warning signs on building sites. The displays have been integrated into the wood structures with painted rails and supports.

Strategically placed round shapes in the wood constructions refer to the 19th-century architectural context of the gallery - the time that this part of Stockholm was built.

In the space adjacent to the gallery and shop, there is a small office connected to the gallery and shop by a set of steps. The window bench in the office is used as a reading and coffee corner by many of the agencies' illustrators who live in the neighbourhood and regularly drop by the office.

The office space is designed with the same principles as the shop. The rear wall also seems to be halted in construction and integrates lots of hidden storage, the toilet and the turquoise kitchen. On top of this, there is a small loft to withdraw
